Parents often worry about dealing with, and helping their child deal with, the multiple pressures on their teen. They may even worry as their children approach adolescence. This 4 session Parent Discussion series offers support for parents feeling overwhelmed by the challenges of parenting a teen, while also offering valuable information and tips.
The initial session will discuss adolescence and some of the changes that occur during this stage. Also, during the first session the group will be asked to identify some of their concerns and the topics they would like to discuss over the subsequent meetings. The goal is to provide parents with an opportunity to share with others going through similar experiences, express their concerns in a supportive setting, and learn some strategies to help them cope with their teens’ challenges (which includes ways to manage their own reactions, including mindfulness parenting skills as well as parenting suggestions). The series is facilitated by Dr. Sherry Pomerantz.
As a psychologist in private practice, Sherry Pomerantz has worked with children, adolescents, young adults and their families for over 25 years. Her particular interests include helping those with eating disorders and body image concerns; adolescent and emerging adult social-emotional development; family relationships; and providing parenting support and coaching. She has offices in Bala Cynwyd and Rosemont. Dr. Pomerantz received her PhD from Temple University and completed post-doctoral family therapy training. She has presented in numerous school and organizational settings to both parents and students on a variety of topics, including body image, recognizing eating disorders, parenting in the digital age, parent-teen communication.
Advanced registration is required. The $200 fee covers all 4 sessions and all materials.
