Back to School Season
Parents and caregivers might see this as “the most wonderful time of the year”, but back to school means an increase in exposure to viruses and infection. Protect your child – and your household – by keeping everyone up-to-date with their immunizations. They can hasten recovery, ease symptoms, decrease the risk of hospitalization and, in some cases, prevent illness entirely.
A few you want to put on your back-to-school/daycare list:
The Annual Flu Vaccine
Have a fall/winter well visit already scheduled for your child? Simply ask when you arrive to have your flu shot administered during your appointment. Don’t have an appointment scheduled during that time? You can self-schedule a specialized flu shot appointment for your child(ren) using the link on our website. This page also includes important details about our flu shot appointments, FAQs and more. You will find the scheduling link at the bottom of the page.
The 2024-2045 COVID Vaccine
The updated COVID vaccine is recommended for all children age 6 months and older. Our offices will administer COVID vaccines for children 6 months through 11 years old. Children 12 years and older can receive their vaccine at any local pharmacy.
Have a flu shot appointment or a fall/winter well visit already scheduled? When you arrive, simply let the receptionist know that you’d also like your child to receive the COVID vaccine. Don’t have an appointment on the calendar? You can schedule a vaccine visit by calling your preferred location.
Beyfortus (RSV)
The Beyfortus immunization is once again being administered at all of our locations this season. We anticipate scheduling appointments beginning in October.
As was the case last year, we will contact all families eligible to have their child immunized, with the priorty being babies turning 8 months old on November 1st, as well as preemies who previously qualified for Synagis. We will then reach out to younger patients. Please respond promptly to any messages you receive regarding eligibility.
Note: if the baby’s mother received the RSV vaccine during pregnancy, be prepared to share the administration date with our staff before scheduling your appointment.
For those who are not contacted as part of our outreach, we will share details about additional appointment availability via email and our social media pages. We have been assured by our manufacturing partners that last year’s supply shortages will not be repeated this season. As such, we are optimistic that any family wishing to have their infant immunized will be able to do so. Feel free to contact your provider via Follow My Health with any questions.
New Supports for Children with Asthma
Center City Pediatrics wants to ensure that families can recognize the signs and symptoms of asthma in their children, identify common asthma triggers, understand how to control these triggers, and properly use asthma medications and tools.
During our new Asthma Care Visits we will help you devise or better implement an Asthma Action Plan. This plan will help you and your child more proactively manage their asthma. We will utilize resources from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) Wee Breathers Program.
Families can schedule an appointment at any of our locations for initial Asthma Care Visits, follow-up visits, and follow-up hospital check-ups. Upon scheduling, each family will be assigned a doctor and an asthma educator. After seeing your provider, you will spend time with the asthma educator to review action plans, MDI, and nebulizer training and other important information. To schedule an Asthma Care Visit, simply visit our website and select that appointment type from the drop down menu.
We kindly request that you complete the checklist shared in your pre-visit text/email and bring it to your appointments, along with any medications, spacers, information about recent hospital visits, and the expiration date of rescue inhalers.
New Appointment Scheduling Feature!
We are very pleased to announce a new scheduling feature, designed to offer earlier, cancelled visit spots to families with upcoming appointments.
When appointments are cancelled, a text message will go out to families asking if they’d like to secure a date/time sooner than what they already have scheduled. You must reply to the text confirming that the earlier date/time works for you.
If your reply is the first received, a return confirmation will be texted back and your appointment will be changed in our system. It’s that simple!
Want to be certain you can take advantage of this new feature? Make sure we have a current, valid phone number for you when completing your pre-visit questionnaire. Need to schedule a well visit? Use the link on our homepage to request a well visit or consult anytime!
