Teen Visits: What Changes Can Caregivers Expect?
Adolescence brings your child a unique set of challenges, many of which require their increased independence to navigate. And that includes their annual teen wellness check.
At these visits we ask your teen to complete a questionnaire on their own, which is intended to facilitate a private discussion with their provider. To accommodate this, we typically ask permission of the parents to leave the room, to allow us to review your teen’s responses with them directly. Fairly recently, we even revised the questionnaire with the input of our Parent Advisory Board (which you are welcome to join!). You can find a copy of the questionnaire on our website.
Although you or your teen can refuse, we feel it is important for them to have an opportunity to discuss concerns related to their development and body alone with a trusted medical provider. This is standard of care in pediatric offices. We do share that we are obligated to disclose to a parent/guardian if they are at risk of serious endangerment to themselves or to others.
If you have questions, feel free to ask your provider or check in with our triage nurse team!
Advice Is Just a Click Away
We know that kids always seem to get sick at night and on weekends – and while our on-call providers are always happy to speak with you – sometimes you just need a little instant feedback.
That’s what makes us so excited to offer our online Medical Library. Here, you can search hundreds of symptoms, conditions or general health topics and receive vetted, trusted advice in real-time 24/7.
Not sure if your child needs immediate attention or if you can treat their symptoms safely at home? Check out our own Wait-Worry-Panic Guide, a resource authored by our providers to help you decide how best to respond to your child’s changing symptoms.
Wait Times
We aren’t kidding when we say we look at every post-visit survey response and consider how we can use your feedback to improve your experience. And if you have shared frustration with a long wait time, we hear you.
We generate reports quarterly to track appointment times and identify areas where we can improve our responsiveness without compromising on the quality of your care. For the 2nd quarter of 2025, average appointment times – from check-in to check-out – were:
· South Street: 43 minutes 26 seconds
· Bala Cynwyd: 47 minutes 5 seconds
· Fishtown: 42 minutes 15 seconds
We recognize that there are outliers and we are doing our best to understand what causes some appointments to extend beyond our average times. We will continue to make this a priority!
School is in Session for Parents & Caregivers Too!
In-person parent education workshops are in full swing at our South Street and *Bala Cynwyd locations. Advanced registration is required for all classes. You do not need to be a patient of the practice to join! Visit our website for details, facilitator bios and registration links.
